Me

Well, I did it. I just closed the door on the mad world of advertising, free of the shackles of the day-to-day craziness, free to live my dreams. And standing here, looking at the road before me, I have only one question: now what??

What am I supposed to do when I wake up, if not check my blackberry for notes from China and the UK? Why do I wake up at 5:45 ready to go, when I have nowhere to be all day? Where is the adrenaline rush, that smug sense of purpose to reinforce my self worth?

I feel free, but free like in Tom Petty’s “Free Falling.” It’s a little scary. What in the world do I do now?

I write. I always have. I also eat. And cook. And I still want to think creatively and spend each day exploring fresh new ways to express my ideas. It might be a thought, or a discovery, or a recipe I have invented or repurposed. And I will use this space to share my musings with any like minded souls who may stop by.

So please drop me a line, say hello and let me know what you think. I welcome the company, and lord knows I can use the advice!

As a co-worker once said when I asked “What can we be doing better?”, He responded “More women jumping out of cakes”. Considering the ongoing issue with High Fructose Corn Syrup, escalating wheat futures and your limited knowledge of “Sugercraft” that may not the best recommendation. Here are a few others:

I’d love to have you create a page/drop down of life experiences you had on the job. Crazy clients/co-workers/situations/stories (anonymous I’m sure), favorite pieces of creative, things you’ve learned that you use today…I bet you have some amazing stuff.

You’ve been to all 50 states (save Alaska). Love to hear your thoughts on favorite places.

Solicit your Uncle Paul to add an ongoing feature, maybe “Judge Boyle’s random thoughts”. Kate could facilitate.

You may want to aggregate thoughts from others about their “creative retirement” ideas, thoughts, feelings, suggestions.

    Much love,

    Mitch

What a lovely way to catch up on what you are thinking and doing post your successful advertising career… I tend to collect and edit my thoughts through writing also. so I appreciate this forum… I’ve already written down the recipe for the vegetable soup… it might just be what’s needed to ease the winter doldrums.

I woke up very early (I think 5:30 am is pretty early) and since the NY Times hasn’t arrived yet I decided to catch up on some reading. I didn’t even know you were writing until you posted your blog info on my facebook page, so now your it’s on my “to read” list. Here I am,I read every posting and I savored every word. I often think, worry actually, about what I will do when I am no longer in “the business.” So thank you for sharing some pieces of this great new chapter in your life. And Park City looks gorgeous. I might just have to visit!

Marlene, Just saw your comment!! So very glad to have you checking in. I keep inviting you to Santa Barbara and Park City and you keep not coming! You really should. Pics here are of Santa Barbara. The ones with the snow, you guessed it, Park City. If you come there, bring your skis. As for retirement, it is great. For now, at least….. : )

Barbara- it is a surreal feeling reading the blog of someone with the same name. Like an alter ego reaching out to me. I plan to subscribe to your blog so that I can see what I might be up to … in another dimension.

Thanks- not stalking- just can’t resist the pull.
